MOSCOW -- Russia wants to postpone a summit with European Union leaders set for next week, Interfax news agency reported Friday. Moscow has asked that an EU-Russia summit scheduled for Nov. 11 be postponed, a high-ranking Russian Foreign Ministry official told the news agency.
"Russia's proposal on postponing the dates of the EU-Russia summit has been prompted by the protracted building of the European Commission, which does not facilitate the efficient preparation of the summit," the official said.
"Russia's proposal was taken by the Netherlands, which is currently presiding in the EU, with understanding," he said.
The workings of the European Commission that runs the administrative affairs of the 25-nation union have been disrupted by a dispute between member nations over who should run key EC functions.
