ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Pakistan's prime minister called this week's discussions about Kashmir with his Indian counterpart "friendly and cordial.
"Pakistan wants peace with India," Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz told journalists in Islamabad Wednesday after returning from a two-day visit to India, the BBC reported. However, he said that progress in the two nations' relations would depend on finding a solution to the Kashmir problem.
The prime minister arrived in India Tuesday in his position as chairman of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, but used the opportunity to discuss Kashmir with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other Indian leaders.
During his visit, Aziz met with Foreign Minister Natwar Singh, members of the Indian opposition and leaders of Kashmiri separatist groups.
At a meeting with the All Party Hurriyat Conference, which is campaigning for Kashmir's independence from India, Aziz failed to unite hard-line and moderate groups, according to one separatist who attended the meeting.
