Iran behind drone incursion into Israel
Mon, Nov 15, 2004
Source UPI

JERUSALEM -- Israel's top general, Moshe Ya'alon, says Iran provided a drone that last week penetrated Israeli airspace and may have been involved in its launching. The drone, apparently sent by Hezbollah, flew over northern Israel.

In a Sunday briefing to the cabinet, Lt. Gen. Ya'alon said the drone was on a show-of-force mission to counter Israeli flights over Lebanon. It was not sent to attack nor to gather intelligence, he said.

The unmanned aircraft crashed into the sea opposite Nakura, on the border between Israel and Lebanon.

Ya'alon said the incursion also demonstrated Hezbollah's restraint since the aircraft could have been used for other purposes. While he did not offer any detail, it was believe he was alluding to the possibility of arming the drone with a bomb and then having it crash into a northern Israeli town.
