NEW DELHI -- India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh welcomed Sunday the European Union's proposal for strategic partnership. The proposal will be finalized Monday at a summit in The Hague, the Press Trust of India reported Sunday.
"In recognition of India's growing stature and influence, the European Union has proposed a strategic partnership with India. This will be formalized during the Hague summit. We warmly welcome the development," Singh said in a statement.
Singh said his discussions with the EU leadership would be reflected in a joint statement to be issued at the end of the summit.
