PARIS -- France welcomed the Israeli Knesset's approval of the withdrawal plan from Gaza Wednesday, while calling for full implementation of the Road Map for peace.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Herve Ladsus said, "France took note of the Knesset's approval of the plan which it believes is an important phase that must be implemented within the framework of the Road Map for peace in the Middle East drafted by the international Quartet Committee."
He said France believes that the whole international community should lend support to ensure the success of the plan, noting that "Paris and the EU are ready to work with both parties to make the move successful."
"It is important that the withdrawal takes place in consultation with the Palestinian Authority which on its part should play its role fully in the coming phase," Ladsus said.
He stressed that France calls for an end to violence from both sides "because that is vital for the success of the Road Map."
