CONCORD, N.H. -- In keeping with tradition, U.S. Election Day was launched just after midnight Tuesday with voting in two tiny New Hampshire villages.
The two villages were Hart's Location and Dixville Notch, although hundreds of thousands of votes have already been cast in absentee and advance votes, particularly in Florida.
The villages have gained national attention each election year since 1948 by taking advantage of a state law that allows polls to close if all registered voters have voted.
President George Bush and Sen. John Kerry each had 15 votes when the results were reported from Harts Location shortly after midnight, and independent Ralph Nader had one vote, t/font>he New York Post reported, CNN reported.
When the votes came in from Dixville Notch, Bush bested Kerry by a 19-to-7 margin. Nader came up empty in the town.
