SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt -- An international conference on Iraq will give the interim government in the war-torn country full support to continue the political process, reports say. Twenty-two countries, including Iraq's neighbors, the Group of Eight and four international and regional organizations, which are to meet later Monday at the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, agreed to give Iyad Allawi's government the necessary backing to enable it to hold general elections in January.
Official sources in the conference told UPI the closing communiqué will strongly condemn terrorist operations in Iraq and ask the Iraqi government to take firm action.
The sources said the communiqué will "reaffirm Iraq's political independence, territorial integrity and national unity in addition to the Iraqi people's right for a stable and secure life and their right to define their future through democratic means and to control their own natural resources."
The final communiqué of the conference will also bind participating countries and organizations to help the Iraqi people achieve their national objectives.
