U.S. stocks rally in late trading

NEW YORK -- U.S. stocks rallied in late trading Friday, buoyed by strong data on consumers' mood and spending habits.

The Dow Jones industrials closed up 69.17 points, or 0.66 percent, at 10,539.01. Nasdaq finished up 27.07, or 1.17 percent, at 2,085.34 and Standard & Poor's 500 was up 10.69, or 0.91 percent, at 1,184.17.

Crude oil for December delivery shed 10 cents to close at $47.32 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Gold closed at its highest level since July 1988, gaining $2.90 to close at $438.30 an ounce.

Bonds rose with the 10-year Treasury note adding 16/32, or $5 for each $1,000 invested, to yield 4.192 percent.

The dollar weakened. It traded at 105.56 yen, off from 106.61 while the euro rose against the dollar to $1.2975 from $1.2906.
