NEW YORK -- U.S. stocks started the week by rising modestly on Wall Street Monday but experts expected profit-taking to set in after two weeks of gains.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 13.30 or 0.13 percent to 10,552.31 in mid-morning trading. The Nasdaq composite gained 1.29 or 0.06 percent to 2,086.63, and the Standard & Poor's 500 was flat at 1,183.53.
After nearly two weeks of gains, markets appeared ready for a more leisurely approach to business and, in some cases, a bit of profit taking, particularly on the Nasdaq.
The 10-year Treasury note added 16/32, or $5 for each $1,000 invested, to yield 4.21 percent.
The dollar fell to 105.355 yen from 106.61, and the euro rose against the dollar to $1.2958 from $1.2906.
Tokyo's Nikkei 225 rose 207.59 points or 1.9 percent to 11,227.57 points.
