WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Trade Representative's Office opened a two-day session Monday of the U.S.-Russian working group on the protection of intellectual property.
The group will review a report on the progress of Russia's intellectual property rights legislation reform.
Participants will discuss issues connected with the United States' Strategy Targeting Organized Piracy initiative, legal regulation of CD and DVD optical disc production, optical disc export control, protecting confidential information in production of pharmaceuticals, and the improvement of Russia's civil and criminal legislation.
The group will also focus on the establishment of a consultative council on intellectual property in Russia, as well as more intensive training of customs officers, police officers, judges and trade inspection officers whose work is connected with the protection of intellectual property rights.
The group's goal is to create a single set of guidelines to apply in evaluating IP protective measures within a U.S.-Russia bilateral framework.
The Russian delegation is led by Boris Simonov, the head of Russia's Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks.
