LONDON -- A British government study shows Britain's small businesses are lagging behind larger ones at getting Internet access, silicon.com reports.
However, small businesses are slowly starting to catch up with bigger companies.
Businesses with between 10 and 49 people saw the most growth in Internet access -- 8 percent -- between 2002-2003, an annual e-commerce study by the Office for National Statistics shows. Businesses with less than 10 people saw the next largest Internet access gain, with a 3 percent rise.
About 40 percent of businesses with less than 10 people still don't have Internet access, almost all businesses with more than 50 people do.
Sixty-two percent of businesses overall had Internet access at the end of 2003, a jump of 3 percent from 2002.
The ONS surveyed approximately 10,000 non-financial businesses for the study.
