MOSCOW -- The fashion for suing fast-food companies has arrived in Russia with a woman suing McDonald's over spilled hot coffee, RIA Novosti news agency reported Friday.
A Muscovite, Olga Kuznetsova, is demanding compensation from McDonald's for a burn she says she received from a spilled cup of coffee, the news agency said.
On Thursday, she filed a suit demanding 100,000 rubles or about $3,400 in moral damages and 400 rubles or $13 for the harm done to her health, said her lawyer, according to the RIA Novosti report.
McDonald's has considered the claim, but refused to acknowledge any culpability, RIA Novosti said.
Kuznetsova says that, when leaving the restaurant in question, she "pushed the heavy door with one hand, carrying a tray in the other, but the door shut immediately, knocking over the cup of coffee over me. I asked the staff if they could help me, but they said they had no ointment left and brought just ice and a towel." Later she was diagnosed with first and second degrees burns. Now Kuznetsova maintains that it will be very expensive to remove the scar left by the burn, the news agency said.
