NEW YORK -- The New York Stock Exchange said Monday a membership seat was sold for $1,050,000, down $50,000 from the previous sale on Oct. 15.
The transaction left seat prices down 60.4 percent from their all-time high of $2.65 million, which was reached in August 1999 amid the late 1990s bull market in stocks, and 22.2 percent below from where they stood a year ago.
A NYSE membership seat confers the right to buy and sell stocks at the exchange. There are 1,366 seats at the 212-year-old Big Board.
The NYSE said a potential buyer now is bidding $1.03 million for a seat, while a potential seller is offering a seat for $1.15 million.
