NEW DELHI -- Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer in New Delhi Tuesday said the company would translate its Windows and Office software into 14 Indian languages.
After meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Ballmer said, "The first thing on the prime minister's mind was support for all Indian languages in computer software that people use. I updated him on Project Bhasha (Project Language) to bring MS Windows and Office in 14 Indian languages by this time next year."
Ballmer said Microsoft would hire hundreds of software engineers in India this year, The Asian Age reported.
Monday Microsoft announced the signing of separate multimillion-dollar partnerships with two Indian software firms, Infosys and Wipro. The deals will enable the Indian firms to use Microsoft technologies to build software for their clients.
The developments were announced during Ballmer's visit to India to open the group's new Indian headquarters in the city of Hyderabad in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh.
