REDMOND, Calif. -- U.S. software giants Microsoft and Novell settled one of two lawsuits Monday, but Novell said it would file another lawsuit against Microsoft this week. The big software maker said it reached a $536 million settlement with Novell over legal claims between the two companies related to Novell's NetWare operating system, in exchange for Novell's withdrawal from the European Union's antitrust case against Microsoft, CNET News.com reported.
Microsoft also resolved a fight with the Computer & Communications Industry Association, an information technology industry group, over antitrust issues between the two organizations.
Regarding its federal lawsuit against Microsoft, Novell said it would file in federal court in Utah seeking unspecified damages related to Novell's WordPerfect software operations, particularly Microsoft's business practices in the mid-1990s, which Novell has charged as anti-competitive.
