BRUSSELS -- The head of the European Central Bank said Tuesday growth in Europe next year is likely to be lower than expected due to high oil prices.
Testifying before the European Parliament's economic committee, Jean-Claude Trichet said growth in the European Union will likely reach 2.0 percent, down from the ECB's earlier forecast of 2.3 percent. Trichet also said there were a number of downside risks for both the European and global economies, although he did not elaborate. Copyright 2004 by United Press International
