SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International of San Jose, Calif., said Tuesday orders for semiconductor equipment declined in October. SEMI said North American manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $1.39 billion in orders in October, down from $1.44 billion a month earlier.
SEMI said the orders during the month were on a three-month average basis and a book-to-bill ratio of 0.96. A book-to-bill of 0.96 means that $96 worth of orders were received for every $100 of product billed for the month. The book-to-bill ratio also was 0.96 in September. "Continued moderation in orders is expected until end market visibility strengthens for the semiconductor manufacturers," said Stanley T. Myers, president and chief executive of SEMI. The three-month average of worldwide billings in October was $1.44 billion. The billings figure is essentially even with the revised September level and 67 percent above the October 2003 billings level of $866.5 million. The three-month average of worldwide bookings in October was $1.39 billion. Copyright 2004 by United Press International
